How to Get From Mexico to Belize

Traveling from Mexico to Belize is straightforward and quite cheap. The first thing you need to do is to get to the border city of Chetumal.

Chetumal

From Old ADO station” (la terminal antigua de ADO) on Salvador Novo street near Av. Insurgentes and Av. Belize in Chetumal you can purchase your ticket to Belize. The bus will make stops in Corozal and Orange Walk before reaching Belize City (final destination). The ride from Chetumal to Belize City is around 3 hours and costs less than $5.

The bus is far from luxurious, but still pretty cool. They are actually renovated school buses. It felt as if I was reliving my childhood as an adult riding these buses.

When you reach the Mexican border you’ll be asked to pay a departure tax, but if you paid this tax in your airfare (most airlines include it) to Mexico then you won’t have to pay. Remember to bring a copy of your airfare statement showing you paid the fee and FMM card to avoid this! If you don’t have a copy of your ticket then you’ll be forced to pay around $25 USD.

The bus will get crowded once you reach Belize, if your final stop isn’t Corozal, prepare for a packed bus for the rest of the journey in Belize!
