How to Get From Belize to Cancun

    March 7, 2018 / 1 Comment

Flying in and out of Belize can be expensive, which is why many fly to Cancun first and travel to Belize by land after. Doing so can save you nearly $200, which may or may not be worth the extra hassle. Here’s how to get from Belize to Cancun. There is a nightly bus from Novelo’s Bus Terminal in Belize City to Cancun airport, which stops in Tulum and Playa Del Carmen along the way. Unfortunately, you cannot purchase tickets online or by telephone; you must buy it in person at the bus terminal between 5pm and 7pm; however, tickets can be purchased up to 7 days in advance. The…

How to Get From Mexico to Belize

    March 7, 2018 / No Comments

Traveling from Mexico to Belize is straightforward and quite cheap. The first thing you need to do is to get to the border city of Chetumal. From Old ADO station” (la terminal antigua de ADO) on Salvador Novo street near Av. Insurgentes and Av. Belize in Chetumal you can purchase your ticket to Belize. The bus will make stops in Corozal and Orange Walk before reaching Belize City (final destination). The ride from Chetumal to Belize City is around 3 hours and costs less than $5. The bus is far from luxurious, but still pretty cool. They are actually renovated school buses. It felt as if I was reliving my…

    Chichen Itza or Uxmal?

    March 6, 2018 / No Comments

Mexico is home to a number of Mayan ruins, all of them unique in their own way. It would be ideal to visit all of them, but realistically, many travelers are short on time and only have time to visit one. Having visited both, I will highlight the pros and cons of each and help you answer the question: “Chichen Itza or Uxmal?”   Chichen Itza Advantages 1) Easily accessible: about a two-hour ride from Cancun. You can go by yourself or arrange a tour through your hotel. 2) 1 of the 7 Wonders of the World! 3) Very safe since you can’t climb anything. The chances of getting injured is…

Day Trip to Izamal from Merida

    March 6, 2018 / 3 Comments

Izamal is truly one of the hidden gems in the Yucatan area and is worth a visit if you have some time to spare. Izamal is one of the oldest and most important Mayan cities. Locals refer to it as a city of three cultures due to its blend of the pre-colonial, colonial, and modern eras. The Mayan structures in Izamal were so massive that rather than destroy them, like the Spaniards often did, they built churches on top of them. Getting there From Merida, it’s about an hour or so by bus (70km). To reach Izamal, take the bus from Noreste station on Calle 67. Take the bus bound…
